Hello, my name is Ben Murphy, and I am currently a student at Drake University, located in Des Moines, Iowa. I’m pursuing a degree in Digital Media Production, which has been an incredibly exciting and fulfilling journey so far. I live in Bettendorf, Iowa, a city that forms part of the Quad Cities, situated right on the border between Iowa and Illinois, and attended Pleasant Valley High School.
My passion for the film industry has been a driving force in my life, and I aspire to make a meaningful contribution to this dynamic field. My experiences at Drake University have allowed me to get hands-on with various aspects of media production. One of the highlights of my time at Drake has been my involvement in filming sporting events for ESPN+. It’s been an incredible opportunity to be a part of the behind-the-scenes action and capture the excitement of live sports.
Additionally, I’ve had the privilege of assisting with cable management, ensuring that all the technical aspects of the production run smoothly. This role has taught me the importance of attention to detail and organization in a fast-paced environment.
I’ve also been involved in a golf event, where I served as an assistant to a camera operator. My responsibilities included handling equipment, such as tripods, to maintain stable and high-quality shots. I’ve even had the chance to work on shot tracer setups, contributing to the visual appeal of golf broadcasts.
Outside of the practical experiences, I am an active member of the Drake Broadcasting System club, where I’ve been able to participate in the creation of various shows. My role within the club has included a range of broadcasting tasks, from on-screen appearances to camera operations during production. It’s been an excellent platform to hone my communication and technical skills.
Recently, I’ve dived into video editing, which has become a passion of mine. I’ve been transforming short movie clips into trailers, creating humorous video clips, and producing sports highlights. This newfound skill has allowed me to explore the creative side of digital media production, giving me an even broader skill set for my future in the film industry.
In summary, my journey at Drake University has equipped me with a strong foundation in Digital Media Production, hands-on experience in sports broadcasting, a growing proficiency in video editing, and a valuable network within the Drake Broadcasting System club. I’m excited to continue my growth in this field and explore new opportunities as I work towards a future in the film industry.
